Why myCistern is the best choice for your garden irrigation
Saving drinking water resources has never been more important than it is today. Rainwater can replace drinking water in many areas of everyday life and thus not only protect the environment but also reduce your expenses. Read here how this works and how we can help you to overcome the challenges that arise.
You can't set a clock after the rain
The main problem with rainwater use is the lack of predictability - operators cannot be sure that their cistern is always sufficiently full and must find a solution for longer dry periods. There are two points to consider here:
- Manage the rainwater that is in the cistern.
- Only use drinking water when the cistern is empty.
In both cases, however, it is important to irrigate particularly efficiently in order to make the available rainwater last as long as possible.
And this is precisely where the decisive advantage of our myCistern Control Unit lies. Unlike irrigation computers from other manufacturers, we use not only weather data but also the fill level of your cistern to optimize irrigation. The Control Unit reacts automatically to a falling cistern fill level and adjusts the irrigation duration accordingly. If the water becomes scarce despite the optimization, the cistern can be refilled fully automatically from an alternative water source (usually drinking water) in order to continue irrigation. You can also find the appropriate, standard-compliant refill accessories in our shop.
We are the only manufacturer able to combine cisterns with automatic irrigation in a meaningful way.
Filters in view thanks to smart sensors
There are a few things to consider, especially if you have not yet started using your cistern or are still planning to do so. For example, leaves, moss and other contaminants can enter the cistern's inlet along with the rainwater. To ensure that these contaminants do not end up at the bottom of the cistern and clog it up, you should definitely install a dirt filter. There are a variety of different types of filters, but in most cases we recommend installing container or basket filters. Firstly, they are relatively inexpensive to buy and secondly, no water is lost during filtering. There will soon be a separate article on the different types of filters, which will show the advantages and disadvantages of each type of filter.
However, one challenge remains with almost all types of filters: they must be cleaned in a timely manner. If cleaning is neglected, basket filters, for example, will overflow. Depending on the design, the overflowing water then flows into the overflow or directly into the cistern, along with the dirt collected in it. In the worst case, your cistern will remain empty despite rain.
To prevent this from happening, basket filters can be monitored with the myCistern Control Unit. You will then be automatically notified in good time via the myCistern app or by email when you need to clean your cistern filter. The filter monitoring is compatible with all common basket filters. Please feel free to contact us at any time if you are unsure about your filter model or need help choosing the right filter.
The cistern under control – from anywhere thanks to the app
A smart cistern control system also needs to be configured and be able to notify you when something is wrong. We have solved this with our myCistern app and an intuitive web dashboard. This allows you to set all parameters for the entire system, view the fill level and filter status, and control the irrigation.
The app also notifies you when your intervention is required, e.g. to clean the filter. So you can sit back and relax, your control unit will do the rest.
In the near future, the control unit will also be able to be integrated into existing smart home systems. Subscribe to our newsletter to stay up to date.
Ready for immediate use thanks to the Plug & Play system
Thanks to the plug & play functionality and the user-friendly app, your myCistern Control Unit can be installed in just a few minutes. A tradesman is usually not required.
This makes myCistern the best option for anyone who wants to install a smart all-in-one system for rainwater harvesting without extensive technical knowledge. The control unit is flexibly expandable and adapts easily to a wide range of requirements and setup configurations.
